NEW YORK The family of Edgar Rice Burroughs has sued Vogue Magazine for monkeying around with the late author's Tarzan and Jane characters in a "sexually suggestive" photographic essay in its April issue.
The suit accuses the magazine and its parent, Conde Nast Publications, of infringing on trademarks held by Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc., a family run business located in Tarzana, Calif.
The company promotes, publicizes and licenses literary works by the late author as well as a wide variety of other products and services using the names or appearances of the Burroughs' characters.
