JUNE: Oak Park resident Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan of the Apes is published in novel form. The story first appeared in a pulp magazine nearly two years earlier. A native of the West Side, Burroughs moved to Hollywood in 1919. He died in 1950 at 74. APRIL: For first time, Illinois women are able to vote in municipal and township elections.
