Many actors have played Tarzan over the decades in dozens of productions about the Lord of the Apes. But for most fans, only one man truly embodied Edgar Rice Burroughs' legendary character: Johnny Weissmuller.

It wasn't just the former Olympic swimming champion and bathing- suit model's physique and stamina that made him right for the part of the loincloth-wearing Ape Man.
