In December 2004, Nigel Cox's novel Tarzan Presley was the focus of several letters to its publishers, Victoria University Press, from lawyers acting on behalf of the estate of Edgar Rice Burroughs, author of the original Tarzan books. They claimed that the title and some aspects of the plot of Cox's novel infringed intellectual property rights. Their stern demand that the book should be withdrawn from sale met with an equally vigorous response from VUP.
