HORST WENDLANDT was one of Germany's most important film producers and distributors, and produced more than 100 films - from screen adaptations of Edgar Wallace thrillers and Karl May westerns to films by Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Sergio Leone. Wendlandt's company, Rialto Film, remained entirely independent and he was still on its board at the time of his death. His rise from humble origins was a remarkable personal achievement worthy of a Hollywood mogul.
