The Arthur in Julian Barnes' new novel, "Arthur and George," is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of famed sleuth Sherlock Holmes.

But even though the book is something of a detective story, following Doyle's attempts to clear the name of a wrongfullly convicted man, don't expect it to be another Holmesian pastiche for Baker Street Irregulars only.
