Emily Dickinson's poem 'This is My Letter to the World' shows the poet's desire to communicate with a future generation which will acknowledge her greatness. Dickinson's message is ambiguous, and she presents herself as humble and meek. She adopts this method because she is unsure of being accepted as a poet by the nineteenth century society which is conservative and critical of women writers.
