It will be argued that modernists use a device called narrative primitivism to actually destabilize the Western modernity critique which so frequently accompanies these modernists' narratives. Narrative primitivism is defined as a technique by which the primitive is imagined as a non-narratable quantity, which later affects the balance of the modernists' progressive time schemes. This technique and its effects are demonstrated in author D.H. Lawrence's books 'Women in Love' and 'The Plumed Serpent.'
