Don't have time for a monthlong vacation in the country? See "Lady Chatterley," the snail's-pace French adaptation of D.H. Lawrence's notorious 1928 novel. The lushly photographed scenery is lovely as Eden, and as it crawls by for nearly three hours, it'll give you the sensation of weeks passing.

Paradoxically for a film about unchecked sexuality, it never comes alive. Unless you come to it already fascinated by the story, there's not much in this dull, dutiful dramatization to win you over.
