Chapter Twelve: Passion

Now that he has broken off with Miriam, Paul begins to see more of Clara
and the more he sees her, the more passionately in love with her he falls, for
Clara is everything that Miriam was not - a maturely sexual, ripely responsive
woman. The two have a number of memorable meetings, which are described in
