Moll Flanders: Part 2, Chapters 12 - 14

Chapter 12: Caught At Last.

Finally Moll trusts her luck too far and is caught with two pieces of
silk brocade on her person; the serving-girls attack her as she is trying to
escape. Though she pleads for mercy, the constable is sent for, she is taken
before the magistrate and committed to Newgate Prison.

Comment:

Newgate was for centuries the central London prison for those accused of
civil crimes. Political prisoners, especially those of high rank, were usually
