ADRIAN Mitchell, the poet and playwright, will not be drawn on the slithy toves, beyond saying they're magnificently slithy. He has just adapted Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland for the Royal Shakespeare Company. With Alice Through the Looking Glass thrown in for good measure, there's a lot of doubling up and quick changes to give the impression of a cast of thousands.
Alice won't look like Tenniel's Alice, that rather soppy creature with yellow hair, Alice band and stripy socks, but like Alice Liddell, Carroll's inspiration for the story.
