El matemático Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, mejor conocido como Lewis Carroll (autor de Alicia en el país de las maravillas), fue uno de los primeros fotógrafos ingleses. Sus modelos preferidas eran niñitas alrededor de los 10 años de edad, como Alicia Liddell, que sería su famoso personaje, a quien narrara por primera vez la historia durante un paseo en lancha por el Támesis, en julio de 1862.
