This seminal children's classic has captured imaginations since it was first published in 1865. It tells the story of what happened to young Alice when she accidentally falls down a rabbit hole, and meets a fantastical collection of creatures from a white rabbit who is always late, to a dodo with a penchant for croquet and the bloodthirsty Queen of Hearts.
The book enjoyed a big resurgence in the 1960s as it was believed some of the tales had the qualities of drug-induced hallucinations.
