Sixth-grade thespian takes on Bronte

CHARLOTTE Bronte's novel "Jane Eyre" isn't on many sixth-grade reading lists.

That hasn't stopped San Mateo native Jennifer Brissman from dipping into it during breaks from rehearsal of the musical "Jane Eyre," TheatreWorks' newest production, which opens Saturday.

"The first seven pages (of the novel) took me 20 minutes, which is a long time for me," says the 11-year-old actress, who plays Young Jane. "So I decided to just skip to the scenes that I was in. It helps me so much, because the play, it leaves out so much."
