Boy, 14, dies after days on life support

OAKLAND -- Rudy Rodriguez, a 14-year-old Bret Harte Middle School student who was rescued from the bottom of a public pool last week during a school picnic, has died.

While at Children's Hospital Oakland on Saturday, Rudy's family learned that the boy's brain had stopped functioning. Still, they held out hope that his health would reverse course.

"We gave him another day to make a miracle," Ana Villalobos, a relative, said on Monday.

It didn't happen, she said. "Our last day to see him was yesterday."
