Boy who nearly drowned remains in intensive care

OAKLAND -- An eighth-grader at Bret Harte Middle School continued to cling to life Saturday evening, two days after he nearly drowned in a public pool at Roberts Regional Park during a school picnic.

Rudy Rodriguez remained in the intensive care unit at Children's Hospital Oakland.

Lifeguards rescued the boy and used CPR and an automatic- electronic defibrillator in an attempt to revive him until the paramedics arrived, said Dan McCormick, aquatic manager for East Bay Regional Parks.
