HARD ramps up headquarters facelift

HAYWARD -- The Hayward Area Recreation and Park District's low- slung headquarters, just uphill from Bret Harte Middle School's athletic fields, is in the midst of a middle-aged makeover.

This year's budget includes $135,000 to replace the roof and remodel the directors' meeting room.

The 1950s-era building, purchased by HARD from the Hayward Unified School District in 1972, has been showing its age over the past decade.

So, gradually, HARD has upgraded the building at 1099 E St., where administrative offices are on the second floor, accessible via a ramp or stairs from the parking lot.
