PASADENA - Bill Nye appeared at the opera house in Pasadena in March 1893.
No, he wasn't "Bill Nye the Science Guy," he was Bill Nye, journalist and popular humorist.
Born Edgar Wilson Nye in Maine in 1850, he adopted the name of "Bill Nye" from a character in a poem by Bret Harte.
Nye was a lecturer and author. One of his most popular books was "Bill Nye's History of the United States," the cover pictured here courtesy of Google books.
