William Blake was not only one of the most inspired poets of the 18th century (and perhaps of all time) he was also way ahead of his time in relation to the printing of exquisite books - in very small quantities.

Blake managed to combine text and image on the engraved plate. It is something which links him to the great illuminated books of the Middle Ages and the monks who prepared them on vellum. If you remember, the words were written down the page often in Latin and the monks decorated the initial letters and borders with miniature paintings ...
