What is it about the lives of long-dead artists that keeps pulling Tracy Chevalier back for more?

Her latest historical novel, "Burning Bright" (Dutton, 320 pages, $24.95) is set in 1790s London, a perfect backdrop for the two very different love stories that form the book's core.

And just as "Girl With a Pearl Earring" recounted the tale of a young woman blossoming in Jan Vermeer's household, this time out, Chevalier is breathing new life into English poet and artist William Blake, in something of a supporting role.
