I AM almost sure I see a dapper Belgian gentlemen with waxed moustaches inching through the crowd towards the gangplank.

The Luxor waterfront with its donkey carts and postcard sellers is so reminiscent of Death On The Nile that you wonder which of the passengers has a pistol concealed in his baggage.

Our riverboat looks a bit like one of the steamers that carried tourists from Luxor in the 30s. Little appears to have changed on board, either, since Agatha Christie's Monsieur Hercule Poirot was shown to his stateroom.
