The first murder of the Agatha Christie Festival took place last night amid a blaze of nostalgia.
Around 50 guests gathered at Torquay's Pavilion for the launch of the literary spectacular which it is hoped will attract tourists from around the globe to the birthplace of the most widely-published author of all time.
The 1920s era which Christie herself would have enjoyed in Torbay was recreated on the terrace at The Pavilion thanks to jazz music, a Hercule Poirot lookalike and cucumber sandwiches.
And no Agatha Christie event would be complete without a death, so it came as no surprise when ...
