Time could be running out for an historic sporting landmark in Torquay which would have been familiar to Agatha Christie in her childhood.

The world's bestselling crime writer is known to have spent some of her early years keeping scores under the shadow of the old oak tree at Barton Cricket Club.

But it now looks as if the natural veteran could be nearing the end of its long and glorious innings after a tree expert raised his finger on its stay at the crease.

Its imminent fall from grace is on the cards following a 'quantified tree risk assessment' by arboreal experts.
