WHEN Geraldine McEwan was offered the role of Miss Marple in ITV's lavish new adaptation of Agatha Christie's novels, it couldn't have come at a better time in the veteran actress's life.
The two years beforehand, she had kept her work to a minimum as she recovered from the loss of her husband of 49 years, former RADA principal Hugh Cruttwell.
"Miss Marple just came at a marvellous moment for me, " says the actress. "I was wanting to take on something big like this, either on film or in the theatre. This came at just the right time. It was wonderful."
