Were the drama of yesterday's events on the South Side of Glasgow and, simultaneously, in North Ayrshire to be turned to the theatre, Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap would confront a major contender for London's most durable West End production.

Indeed, placed in a New York context, it would probably permit queues to stretch the length of Broadway.

That Rangers emerged as the SPL champions by beating Dunfermline by 6-1 at Ibrox while Celtic were winning by 4-0 at Rugby Park means scarcely a jot in the greater context.
