I rather like the fact that we have four very different poems on offer, though that does make the task of choosing one over the other three rather difficult. I shall have a bit more of a think before I cast my vote...
"I should only believe in a God that would know how to dance. And when I saw my devil, I found him serious, thorough, profound, solemn: he was the spirit of gravity- through him all things fall. Not by wrath, but by laughter, do we slay. Come, let us slay the spirit of gravity!" - Nietzsche
I must first applaud all the poets on their wonderful attempt and then must admit it has been a really difficult decision choosing one of these!
I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves of gold there grew.
Last five days to vote!

E-e-e-k! That was hard. I could have voted for any one of them!

Congratulations to Dark Muse, who is the winner of our Halloween Poetry Contest 2010 with her poem titled "Ghost: A Love Story":
Ghost: A Love Story
Dispersing mist
begins to gather
at the base of my spine,
transfixed by your eyes
hovering through the darkness.
It was a whiff of perfume,
and French cigarettes,
the moment your image appeared,
pale as a stone angel
before you vanished.
Memory imprinted
recalled with an equal measure
of the sublime and
nightmarish fear.
Your voices calls at the window
and you face emerges from nothing,
a death mask retreating
into the night.
My dreams become nightmares
and yet I am not sure
I want to wake.
You could draw me away
into your world beyond
the gray, like shades
we both would pass
and forever you will come.
I would like to thank everyone who took part in the competition.

Go Dark Muse! Yes! I voted for a winner! And BTW, thanks for your vote for my poem. It is no shame to come in second to such a wonderful poet!
Some of us laugh
Some of us cry
Some of us smoke
Some of us lie
But it's all just the way
that we cope with our lives...
Thank you very much! And thank you for voting for me!
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before. ~ Edgar Allan Poe
Ode to Horror
Smoky fumes of the fiery pile arise
- - -Bubbling black on the air, and I could not draw
Such an image from my sleep as from those eyes
- - That blister back on shaking spears mine saw.
With a reckless dread, as on a fulcrum
- - My body swivelled from the deathly smoke
- - - That housed the hideous heart of one so dead
And the sound that set my eyes beating therefrom
- - All senses heightened, and the heart slowing, choked,
- - - - As there its mangled arm soaked into my head.
So that's who I voted for, Pendragon! Congrats, Dark Muse, for a scary job well done!

Congratulations Dark Muse. Yours would have been my second choice.
But "Halloween Poem" was so zany it had me laughing for several minutes. In fact every time I thought of it I chuckled. I just had to vote for it. I hope the author reveals himself. Kudos if you don't.![]()

I wrote the one called "Halloween Poem", and thanks for the vote, Virgil. However, having just slapped it together upon noticing the contest, I was actually terrified at the idea that I might win, after seeing the other (longer and polished) entries.
Turns out there was no reason for me to be afraid of such a thing. And Virgil's support kept me from looking like a complete idiot.
