I have much the same reaction to this as I have to Leonard Cohen - that is, some days, I'd think it a well-crafted tune in the folk tradition supporting intelligent and considered lyrics that avoid the usual tropes. But today I think think the tune's derivative and the lyrics are overegged. 5/10

The Furs - the arrangement has dated, but the tune is still gear.

I like it but you're right about the arrangement. 7/10

Edit: It is an English cover of a song from a Yiddish light opera from 1941.

Publicly, I'm not a White Stripes fan but it's hard not to view Jack White as a minor genius. 8/10.

    My thoughts about Jack precisely.

I've never heard of The National, but I really liked that - and I don't mean merely somewhat. 9/10

Sting, where is thy death? 0/10. (Sorry Scher, but there are some moral imperatives).

10/10 if I get to watch that hilarious video. 5/10 if I get just the song.

Alright Toby Keith is big fat idiot. His songs are crap. Total crap. Except this one, which I absolutely love.
