A bit detached and mannered. Not unlike the work of Brett Easton Ellis. 5/10

That really takes me back. I haven't heard it in ages. I'd give it the same as Papaya.

I have discovered the secret of Chumbawumba. Listen to them no more often than once every eight years and they are wonderful. 8/10. Also, I really fancy the chick in the specs.

Speaking of crushes from back then - here's some pure pop for Now People.

(Paul - can you identify the drummer without looking it up?)

I don't recognise him - who is it? He was tantalisingly in shot.. 7/10 for the group. The jangling guitar reminded me of this:

    He's the drummer from Madness.

There was a great Top Tip in Viz.

Big Country fans! Save yourself the price of the Big Country album by buying the single and playing it eleven times!

I don't think I can improve on that critique. 3/10

As you get older, you gain the ability to separate the song from the circumstance, the image, the memories, even the singer. And this, actually, is a very good song, despite - well - everything.

I think you're right about Big Country, but the one good song was good. I remember my mate, who liked them, was disappointed that they didn't do more.

I didn't know it was the drummer from madness - I'd never have guessed it. As for Dave - well we used to profess our hatred fr him as kids, I suppose to balance the wildness he induced in the girls - at school! Good singer on balance - 6/10

    It is ok - 5/10

Here's another echo from the past

My mate and his girlfriend went on a tour in Liverpool with this group - early 80's. They went on the ferry over the Mersey. It was something they put on for the fans apparently.

10/10. I don't think an explanation is necessary.

I know, right? This is not my favorite song of The Smith's but it is still a 7/10.

Black Lace are from my hometown - Wakefield. We don't tend to mention it too much. But I've got to support the locals - 10.5/10

Did you choose it for the trousers?
