    Smile Happy Birthday, Mona!

    Happy Birthday, Mona!

    An interview with Mona Amon:

Why are we doing this interview thing?
    Makes me feel distinguished.

Are you sure you want to do this?
    Oh yes!

    Are you male or female?
    Female

What is your name (if you don't mind sharing it with us)?
    Mona.

    Got milk?
Oh yes. We use a lot.

Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?
Not me! I go for the chocolates.

If you had a personal theme song what would it be?
    No idea!

What makes you keep coming back to the Forum?
We have some really good writers here. I don't do much posting, but I like to lurk.

It has been a year since the last interview. What have been the high and low points?
High would be my son graduating from college and joining a postgraduate course where for the first time, he's doing quite well. Low point - My friend from school sending me an e-mail saying that her daughter was diagnosed with cancer. Her treatment seems to be successful, but still.

The best and worst books you have read during last year?
Worst - The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai. Best - A House for Mr. Biswas.

What has been the the biggest change in your life since your last birthday?
Life's been much the same as usual.

Do you feel the divine spark of life within you or do you consider yourself a mechanical thing?
Divine spark! Otherwise I'm completely inexplicable.

Do you have any pets? What are their names?
I only have goldfish. No names.

Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?
    A fish. I like swimming.

How did you meet your significant other?
The usual way for most of us in India. I’d finished my post graduation. Parents thought it was high time I got married, and found someone whom they thought was suitable. We agreed to get married after meeting each other once.

What is the one thing you must do before you die?
    Get ‘organized’!

    Do you believe in ghosts?
    No

What song is in your head at the moment?
something about mmm..mama..ma..ma pokerface my poker face…

Which book are you reading at the moment?
Aunts Aren’t Gentlemen by P.G. Wodehouse

What type of an author would you be?
I’d love to be an exuberant wordsmith like Joyce or Nabokov, and I’d love to be as popular as a rock star.

The last book you finished reading?
    Catch 22 (re-read)

What are you wearing at the moment?
    A kaftan

    Favorite TV shows?
    Not much TV for me.

Which LitNet members would you like to meet in person if you could?
All those mentioned below and my friends

    Favorite post on the Forum?
I like to read anything by Virgil, JBI, Gladys, Neely, Kiki (shorter posts ) . I’m afraid I must have left out quite a few which I enjoy …

    Favorite thread?
I’ll have to think about it …

    Last food did you have?
    A mug of coffee

Last words you said out loud?
I told my dad to buy some chicken.

    Last person you hugged/kissed?
    My son.

What question would you like to ask yourself?
Erm… Why don’t you ever keep your New Year Resolutions?

What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?
I should have started making lunch, LOL.

    Last dream you remember having?
A ‘missing the train’ dream. I get that quite often.

What is your most bizarre book memory?
Only very slightly weird – the feeling of déjà-vu I got when reading a part of Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. I then remembered that we’d had that extract in a textbook when I was in 9th grade.

Who is your best friend and how long you have known them?
I have no friends! I lost touch with school and college friends except for an occasional e-mail. I have sisters, cousins, neighbours, hubby's friends and of course my family, but no best friend.

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done?
Nothing occurs to me, so I either have a very clear conscience, or no conscience at all, or a bad memory.

If you had to lose one of your senses, which would you choose and why?
Each seems as bad as the other.

Are you mostly happy with life or are you still in pursuit?
I’m happy, which isn’t such a good thing. I ought to be in pursuit!

How often do you tell lies?
I’m not a good liar, so I usually avoid it like the plague.

    What gives your life meaning?
Family, friends, books, art, music…all the usual.

What type of Faerie would you like to be and why?
The one on the Christmas Tree. Very pretty!

If you were a colour, what colour would you be and why?
Orange. It’s such a warm, vibrant colour.

    What makes you laugh?
The funny things people say or do. Funny books, movies, life’s little ironies…

What was the happiest period of your life and why?
The present! This is the most relaxed I’ve ever been, with my son finally grown up, more or less.

If you could be a Disney character who or what would you be and why?
I don’t like Disney much. As kids I remember the Disney comics were always the last resort, if there was no Harvey, Hanna-Barbera, Archie comics to be had.

Do those animated smilies ever get tired? Think of them day after day, dancing or crashing computers or laughing or crying till the end of time...
I think they rest when we’re not looking.

One thing you would like to do before your next birthday?
I’d like to take up drawing and painting again and become really good at it.

Did you answer all of the question?
    Most of them.

One final word of wisdom for LitNet users?
Umm…Unto yourself be true, eat up your veggies, do not throw glasses in stone houses and do not covet your neighbour’s ox.

What would you like to ask to the person to be interviewed after you?
Have you studied literature as a subject in college?

Thank you very much, each one of you, for your birthday wishes, cakes, chocolate pizza and presents! You all made my day very special! I'm glad you liked the interview.

Virgil, my son's doing Business Administration (MBA).

Pensive, I'm glad you thought I was pretty young. I'm assuming it's the youthful exuberence of my style!
