That´s a difficult question... I think it depends on the place I´m going to. If it happens to be a cruise, I would carry a book about travels, such as Marco Polo, Benjamin de Tudela (a Spanish jewish who in the 12th century went to the Middle East), some Spanish conqueror in the New World or even Herodoto.

I had to pay £50 ($120ish) for a second hand edition as they are out of print, but if you can get hold of a copy then wow...I would probably take some Oscar Wilde... and that idea of his letters is quite interesting to me, maybe its time to check Amazon for Christmas shopping.....
