Happy Birthday, St. Lukes. May your day be as grand as a masterful painting, and may all the knowledge under the sun be ever at your fingertips, and may you always rest under the tree of life.

Hi St Lukes. I always enjoy reading your posts. And I have nothing to give even virtually, so I can just wish you a very happy birthday. Please keep posting.

    Happy Birthday, StLukes!

    An interview with StLukesguild:

Why are we doing this interview thing?
Nothing better to do right now. I took the day off work for my birthday.

Are you sure you want to do this?
    We'll find out, won't we?

    Are you male or female?

    Male

What is your name (if you don't mind sharing it with us)?
    David

    Got milk?
    Not now. Got sinuses.

Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?
    Don't look at me.

If you had a personal theme song what would it be?
They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha Ha.

What makes you keep coming back to the Forum?
Boredom. Nothing on TV. Interesting dialog (sometimes).

It has been a year since the last interview. What have been the high and low points?
My second car died, my unemployed brother moved in, and the studio I've been painting in for 5 years became entangled in a legal mess that cost me most of my summer... the most productive time for me painting wise. On the good side, my new studio is better organized and far less expensive; I've had two exhibitions of my work (one is currently still showing at a local college), my brother finally got a job and we're buying a new car next week.

The best and worst books you have read during last year?
The best book may have been a second reading of Eugenio Montale's Cuttlefish Bones. The best first-time read was perhaps Yves Bonnefoy's collection of poetry entitled Curved Planks. The worst would have been one of those "educationese" books I need to read for my job written by some idiot who has never been in a classroom and doesn't have the least clue.

The biggest surprises of the past year?
Being invited to exhibit my paintings at a local college.

Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?
An eagle. I always wanted to fly.

How did you meet your significant other?
I was working for her family after college.

What is the one thing you must do before you die?
    See the Sistine.

    Do you believe in ghosts?
    No.

What is your role in an emergency situation: the 911 dialer, the person who runs to
the scene to help, the video recorder, or the person too overcome by shock to do anything?
I'm probably the one who dials 911 and then runs to help. My wife is the one who just freezes.

What song is in your head at the moment?
    Schumann's Träumerei

Which book are you reading at the moment?
Actually, I'm not reading anything at the moment... although I have been skimming through Forbidden Words, a collection of poems by Eugenio de Andrade. Quite rare for me. I must get started on something.

The last book you finished reading?
Memories of My Melancholy Whores by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

What are you wearing at the moment?
Boxers and a Florida State sweatshirt.

    Favorite TV shows?
    I don't watch TV.

Which LitNet members would you like to meet in person if you could?
Virgil, Petrarch's Love, JBI (so I could body slam the little sophomoric know-it-all.)

    Favorite post on the Forum?
I think the poetry club discussions on Eugenio Montale, Kenneth Rexroth, and Boris Pasternak were quite interesting.

    Last food did you have?
    Chili

Last words you said out loud?
    I won't be in today.

    Last person you hugged/kissed?
    The wife.

What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?
    Teaching art to 2nd graders.

    Last dream you remember having?
I never remember my dreams... perhaps I daydream too much.

Who is your best friend and how long you have known them?
    Yong. 20 years.

If you had to lose one of your senses, which would you choose and why?
Smell. As an artist and art teacher sight is obviously out. As a music fanatic I need hearing. Eating would such without taste and sex without touch? Besides... I just had chili last night. It should go without saying.

Are you mostly happy with life or are you still in pursuit?
    Always in pursuit.

How often do you tell lies?

    What gives your life meaning?
    Art and Love.

What type of Faerie would you like to be and why?
What are you insinuating? Who told you what!?

If you were a colour, what colour would you be and why?
    Black... dramatic.

    What makes you laugh?
    The absurdities of life.

What was the happiest period of your life and why?
The year and a half I lived in New York. I was out of school and had no worries or responsibilities. I spent most of the time looking at art... or in a drunken stupor.

Do those animated smilies ever get tired? Think of them day after day, dancing or crashing computers or laughing or crying till the end of time...
    I'll trade jobs

One thing you would like to do before your next birthday?

Get my work out in at least one gallery.

Did you answer all of the question?

    I won't answer that.

    Happy Birthday!
I'm weary with right-angles, abbreviated daylight,
Waiting for a winter to be done.
Why do I still see you in every mirrored window,
In all that I could never overcome?
