King of New York - from Newsies
In the time of chimpanzees I was a monkey
Butane in my veins and I'm out to cut the junkie
With the plastic eyeballs, spray-paint the vegetables
Dog food stalls with the beefcake pantyhose

King Of New York - Fun Lovin' Criminals
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said the words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls

We're happy as fish and gorgeous as geese
And wonderfully clean in the morning.

Willow Farm by Genesis. My brother was a huge Genesis fan when he was in high school, I, being 4 years younger, was unimpressed at the time but I still remember a lot of those songs.

    I keep reaching up
but they drag me back down
    Wherever I try to hide
    I will always be found
the luminous grass of the prairie hides
feet lovely and still as sleeping doves,
porcelain bones strong enough to carry a life,
    but weighty and unmovable
    As black Dakota hills.

Don't Stop Believin' - Journey (finally, one I knew without googling!)
    Chew your meat for you
    Pass it back and forth
    In a passionate kiss
    From my mouth to yours
    I like you

I *had* to google this one... Another interesting lyric from Basil!

    Drain You - Nirvana

We all become important when we realize our goal
Should be to figure out our role within the context of the whole
And yeah, rock and roll is fun, but if you ever hear someone
Say you are huge, look at the moon, look at the stars, look at the sun
Look at the ocean and the desert and the mountains and the sky

I like Giants - Kimya Dawson

You be you and let me be me
    No strings attached emotionally
I wanna get a little crazy
    That's puttin' it plain
You got the medicine and I got the pain.

    Open Invitation ~ Santana

But anyone who ever had a heart
Oh, they wouldn't turn around and break it
And anyone who's ever played a part
Oh, they wouldn't turn around and hate it
the luminous grass of the prairie hides

Sweet Jane by......Cowboy Junkies (since it's you, Idril-anyone else and I'd put Velvet Underground )
    She set your goldfish free
    And now she's sighing
    Blew out your pilot light
    And made a wish

I purposely picked lyrics that were in both versions so one could go either way.

And your song is Twisted by They Might Be Giants...and guess what?! I love that song!

Saw at least a hundred schoolgirls sobbing
    into hankerchiefs as one.
    I don't believe they knew
    I was a schoolboy.

    A thumbnail sketch, a jeweler's stone
A mean idea to call my own
