    Happy Belated Birthday, Qimissung!

Hope you had a great day!

    An interview with Qimissung:

Why are we doing this interview thing?
I rarely get a chance to talk about myself to my heart's content. Who does, really?

Are you sure you want to do this?

    Yes.

    Got milk?

    Got chocolate milk.

Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?

Probably me, if it was chocolate chip.

If you had a personal theme song what would it be?

"Believe it or Not" from Greatest American Hero.

    Are you male or female?

    Female.

What makes you keep coming back?
    Curiosity.

Are you happy with the way things are here?
    I wouldn't change a thing.

    Which countries have you visited?

I have visited England, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, and Austria. I was just out of college, and my parents paid $1000 for me to tour Europe for a month with friends. We stayed in hostels. I was hungry once in awhile, but it was a wonderful adventure. I adore Europe.

How do you like your home town?

I love it. It is a smallish town (about 35,000) in northern Oklahoma. Right now I live in a fairly large city and when I visit Bartlesville it seems like a miniature city.

If you could live somewhere different, where would it be and why?

O-h-h-h, if I could live anywhere I wanted I would have residences in Paris, France, Italy, maybe Venice and somewhere in Tuscany, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and also somewhere in Oklahoma.

    Do you have any pets?

Yes, by default I have nine cats. IMy family and I saved a kitten a few years ago. It turns out she was a pregnant kitten. So, kind of like the family in 101 Dalmatians we could not be parted from them when they were born.

    What makes you happy?

Freedom from care and free time; being surrounded by those I love and knowing they are well and happy; work I find involving; reading, writing, being in touch with nature (to a small degree).

What is mankind's biggest achievement, and its greatest downfall?

Mankinds biggest achievement is democracy; its biggest downfall, television.

Do you feel comfortable in your walk with God/atheism?
Yes, I am. I do believe in God, but not necessarily religion. My life works better when I am in regular contact with Him (or Her).

Which actor should play you in a movie based on your life?
Good question. H-m-m-m,I guess Goldie Hawn (for those who remember her); not that I look anything like her. I am short with brown hair, but the carefree spirit she embodies is how I see myself, even if it's not really the way I live my life. I'm a Virgo, and I do kind of keep my nose to the grindstone.

Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?
Having just watched "Planet Earth" for the second time (that show is awesome!), a snow leopard, the most beautiful animal on the planet (after all the others, of course).

What were your favorite things to do the past? What about now?

In the past I mostly read; I have recently added painting in watercolor. It remains to be seen if I'll actually get to do it much.

What makes you feel great about yourself?

When I do the right thing.

How did you meet your significant other?
My significant other and I met on an online dating service. He was really the only one who showed any interest in meeting with me, OK, but it could not have worked out better. He is perfect for me. I hope he feels the same way.

    Who inspires you most?

    Abraham Lincoln

    Who inspires you most?
    Abraham Lincoln

What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)

I'm good at reading, wasting time, waiting in waiting rooms when they have plenty of magazines; I hope I'm good at loving my family, at teaching, at writing, at living.

What is the one thing you must do before you die?
    Learn a freaking foreign language!!!!

If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
I do teach. I am an English teacher. I like it. I just wish the people I teach liked learning more.

What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?
Traveling. I don't really have the money to travel and I would give anything to travel over the entire world.

What method do you cherish above all others, as means to improving your life?

Reading self-help books. It never helps, but I still do it anyway.

What is your role in an emergency situation: the 911 dialer, the person who runs to the scene to help, the video recorder, or the person too overcome by shock to do anything?

I am the 911 dialer! That is, if there isn't any blood involved. If there's blood, it's probably the one who's too overcome by shock.

What one thing would you NEED to have on a deserted island if you didn't have to worry over food and water?

    Books, and plenty of them.

What song is in your head at the moment?

"That's what you get for waking up in Vegas..."

Which book are you reading at the moment?

"Castledown," by Joyce Ballou Gregorian. It's about a girl, Sibby, who is called back to the land of Tredana to help the noble prince, Leron, regain his rightful place as ruler of the country. I am a sucker for that kind of fantasy. And the bookmark I am using is a psotcard with a print by Marc Chagall, my new favorite artist. I am in love with his work.

The last book you finished reading?

"Persuasion," by Jane Austen. I am going to try to reread all her books this year, and participate, however minimally, in the book club thread on her books. I've already read them all, except for "Mansfield Park."

    What is your favourite quote?

It's in my signature. "The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiousity has it's own reason for existing." Albert Einstein.

    Favorite food?/ Comfort food?

A really good old-fasioned hambrger like from a drive-in such as Lottaburger, with plenty of onions and mustard; chichen with new potatoes; an intensely chocolate brownie, fresh from the oven.

What time of day do you most often find yourself on the LitNet?

In the evening, although I do peek in occasionally while I'm at work.

What are you wearing at the moment?

A white shirt with sort of purple and black leanves and cropped jeans and these leather shoes that your feet slide into. I love them.

    Favorite poem?

Edna St. Vincint Millay, her sonnet beginning "Love is not all, it is not meat nor drink..."

First novel you remember reading on your own?

    "The Boxcar Children."

What era do you find most of the books you read are from?
I don't think they hail from any particular era, but I do read a lot of mysteries, both set in the present day and in the past, and I like a good historical novel as long as the author has taken care to be accurate about period details and attitudes.

    Favorite TV shows?

"The Closer," "Medium." (I do not believe in psychics, however, but the show does tell a good story), "How I met Your Mother," "Big Bang Theory," "Monk,""Psych," "Torchwood," and "The Wire," although it's no longer on the air, I just recently discovered it. Excellent series. Yeah, kind of a long list, I know.

Which LitNet members would you like to meet in person if you could?

PrinceMyshkin, Janine, LadyWentworth, alakungfu, Madhuri, mazHur,firefangled, bouquin, mtpspur, TheFifthElement, pendragon, Virgil; most of the people who hang around on the poetry pages and the blogs. If I left anyone out, my deepest apologies. Everone here is always so nice-and kind. You cannot overestimate the importance of kindness.

Last words you said out loud?

"I don't know; it's hard to estimate." My son wanted to know how long I'd be on the computer.

    Last person you hugged/kissed?

    My boyfriend.

What do you do (for a living) to be able to keep your LitNet addiction going? And are you happy with your chosen profession?
I'm a teacher. Yes, I'm happy with it. I would like to be more in control of how it's proceeding.

What question would you like to ask yourself?

    What the hell...?

What would you like to be if you could change your profession?

    layabout.

What is your most outstanding feature?

Do you mean my appearance or my character? Physically, not sure I have one; as for my character, I hope I'm kind, especially when it's needed.

If you could change one thing about the way you look, what would that be?
Do we have to limit it to one?

Which book do you wish you had written?

"The Little Princess." by Frances Hodgeson Burnett. For adult literature it would be "Pride and Prejudice" and "Les Miserable." I am so glad I do not live in a world that does not incude these works of art.

What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?
    Going to bed.

If you could only rescue one item from your burning house, what would it be, and why?

Just one? The picture of my sons when they were young.

    Wonderful Superman or depressing Batman?

I want to be wonderful Superman, but the truth is I'm probably closer in nature to depressing Batman. I'm kind of a brooder.

Anything that you want to forget but you never can?
I'm actually pretty good at forgetting.

Tell us about some amusing translation mistake you have heard or made yourself.

I can't think of any at the moment. I know a few phrases in Spanish that I never get quite right. I blame my students, since they're the ones who taught me.

Are you mostly happy with life or are you still in pursuit?
I am in pursuit, but getting occasional glimpses.

What type of Faerie would you like to be and why?

I would love to be a Faerie, any kind will do.

    What makes you laugh?

My students, a decent comedy, myself, J (my boyfirend), my kids. I find people amusing.

What part Final don't you understand?

    Not any part of it!

One final word of wisdom for LitNet users?

Go forth and be amazing. Oh,I forgot. You already are.

Qim, happy birthday, I wish you all the best

"But do you really, seriously, Major Scobie," Dr. Sykes asked, "believe in hell?"
    "Oh, yes, I do."
    "In flames and torment?"
"Perhaps not quite that. They tell us it may be a permanent sense of loss."
"That sort of hell wouldn't worry me," Fellowes said.
"Perhaps you've never lost anything of importance," Scobie said.

    Happy Birthday!
I'm weary with right-angles, abbreviated daylight,
Waiting for a winter to be done.
Why do I still see you in every mirrored window,
In all that I could never overcome?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY DEAR FRIEND, QIMISSUNG!!!

Enjoy the cake. I loved your fine interview! I would like to met you someday, too... Who knows it might just be possible. At least I am in the US, too.

OMG, I love this poem too, Qimissung....

"Edna St. Vincint Millay, her sonnet beginning "Love is not all, it is not meat nor drink..."

I love her book or series entitled "Fatal Interview"...it breaks my heart everytime I read it. I think this poem is from it.

Thank You *Classic*Charm*, mona, and Janine. I love the cake, Janine, it is adorable. We might get to meet; I am usually off in the summer. A little trip to New Jersey might be just the thing!

That would be fun. Just remember to pack the mosquito spray! Just kidding, NJ is not that bad. We do have the ocean resorts and they are quite nice. Glad you liked the cake.
