    Book Club Proposal 2010

Please vote for the nomination system you would like the Book Club to follow in 2010 by September 10th.

You can choose more than one option.

    1. Author of the month: 12 authors to be chosen and each month we choose a book written by one particular author. E.g. In January we include only Camus' works in the poll and read one of those in February.

    2. Genre of the month: Different genres to be selected and we nominate/vote for books belonging that particular genre each month. E.g., March: Month of Sci-fi so only sci-fi books will be nominated for that month.

    3. Country of the month:The present system. 12 countries to be chosen and each month we read a book from that particular country's literature. The works nominated would not be too obscure (only those are available in English on Amazon maybe?)

    4. Trend of the month: Each month we read a book from a different period such as Victorian, Romantic etc.

    5. Random nominations: The old system. We nominate the books we would like to read randomly.

    6. Prize Winners: We randomly nominate books that have received various literary awards (eg Pulitzer, Booker etc).

Oh is it that time of year already. SO what do people want this year? I will have to think about my vote.

I'm thinking about random, I think we read a greater variety when we used to do random.

Definitely random, that way a little bit of everything is read, but there is less chance of anyone griping about disliking a particular choice, theme, or genre.

Country - author is too limiting, and prize winners are too narrowed, or biased (and will just end with only a few prizes being suggested).

Random seems like a decent idea though.

But how exactly would random work? What bank of books would you be randomly searching through to find the entries? I think it's the best idea, I'm just unsure on how it would be done.

I like the country idea. I read too many American and British novels.
Edit: Sorry, I accidently clicked my mouse on the "authors" option. I guess at the end, conisider it "Authors -1."

I suppose that I do not have to post that I have not the faintest idea when I will be able to make any reading commitments, but I haven't the faintest idea when I will be able to make them. What I can say is I'd like more highbrow contemporary readings, and I suppose this is easier said--especially when I'd like more theory, non-fiction, and author arguments based on factual research. I am on a yahoo non-fiction group, but couldn't keep up, but they are where my tastes lie these days. I'm bored with novels.

I was quite happy to see we could choose more than one option, as I would have had a difficult time narrowing it down to just one. I ended up going with Country, Trend, and Prize Winners

The votes with members who have less than 50 posts will not be counted... which means we have a tie at the moment.
