As far as I understand it, clicking the "Remember Me" box when you log in keeps you from having to re-type your username and password every time you visit the site (with a cookie), and is supposed prevent you from having to re-log if you take too long to type a post.
Unless you're "active" and clicking pages, being "idle" for 15 or more minutes drops you off of the list of active users. Admin could probably explain this a lot better than me

This is actually what I do whenever I log on. I found that it was very helpful when I was writing out a long entry/post.
