Happy birthday Idril. I can kind of picture you behind a drum set.

And how about a Dave Matthews song as a gift:

Happy Birthday, Idril! Hope your day is a fantastic one!

Here is an interview with Idril:

Are you sure you want to do this?
Not after seeing all the questions!

    Are you male or female?
    I'm a girl

How did you come about this site and what makes you keep coming back?
I found it in a search about a Dostoevsky book, I don't even remember which one now but I know it was Dostoevsky.

Are you happy with the way things are here?
I get really frustrated with the fact that it is almost impossible to have a discussion without things getting personal. That's why I tend to keep myself to the simple, one or two word response threads.

Have you visited other countries than your own and what did you like about it or not like? If you could live somewhere different from where you live now, where would it be and why?
I've been to Canada but just across the border so I'm not sure that counts. If I could live somewhere different, it would probably be in Norway. I have relatives there, it's beautiful and it has a great history. If I was just visiting, I would love to go to St. Petersburg or Moscow, I just wouldn't want to live there.

    Do you have any pets?
Yes, I have 2 dogs, a beagle named Smeagol and a Shiba Inu cross named Dobby. We named Smeagol but we didn't name Dobby, he was a Shelter dog.

    What makes you happy?
A good book, a new pair of jammies and a comfy bed.

If you had a long day of hard work ahead of you what music would you be playing on your mp3, while working?
It would be something upbeat and something I know all the words to so I could sing at the top of my lungs, maybe 10,000 Maniacs or Lone Justice.

Do you feel comfortable in your walk with God?
Yes, I am, but it's not necessarily something I feel the need to talk about. I'm a preacher's kid so it's something I've been surrounded with since birth but faith is a very personal thing and when you get right down to it, my faith is only important to myself and my family, I don't feel the need to share.

Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?
Some form of a cat so I could lay around in the sun all day and interact only when I'm in the mood.

What were your favorite things to do the past? What about now?
Hang out with my brother, doing everything he told me to because he was like a god to me; wander the hills and coulees at our cabin by Lake Sakakawea, playing with friends and listening to music. I still like listening to music and I still like wandering the hills and coulees by the lake but I no longer do everything my brother tells me to. I also like reading, of course, playing Harvest Moon on the DS and embarrassing my youngest son because he is soooo easy!

Who inspires you most? (Anyone you know or not. Family, friends, authors, artists, leaders, etc.) Which qualities inspire you, in each person?
Being naturally a very suspicious person, I don't impress easily but my Mom and Dad will always be my heroes. My Dad because he has always been such a present and committed parent as well as being generally brilliant and having a wicked, wicked sense of humor and my Mom because her love knows no bounds and my smile is still enough to make her day. And together they are truly two halves of the same whole, very different but so respectful of each other.

What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)
I'm a good listener and have always had the ability to look at the other side. I've always been very nurturing which is probably why I chose a career in child care and I can find the humor in absolutely anything, something I inherited from my Dad.

What song is in your head at the moment?
Well, I'm listening to Wouldn't It Be Good by Nik Kershaw so that is the song that is in my head but before that, I've been replaying the line, "There's nothing prettier than a pretty girl, digging a heart shaped hole in the ground" from the song, The Wrong Kind of Love by Jim White

Which book are you reading at the moment?
    Red Cavalry by Isaac Babel

The last book you finished reading?
The Icelandic Saga, The Saga of the People from Vatnsdal

    Favorite food?/ Comfort food?
Pot stickers! Buttered popcorn! Lefse! Sandbakels! My Mother's carmel rolls!

What time of day do you most often find yourself on the LitNet?
    Late afternoon/early evening

What are you wearing at the moment?
Jeans, a Zelda t-shirt and a green hooded sweatshirt...and slippers!

    ]Favorite TV shows?
Life, Lost, The Deadliest Catch, The Daily Show, Chuck, Life on Mars*(BBC version)

Which LitNet members would you like to meet in person if you could?
Well, the person I most wanted to meet I already have, Riesa! But I would get a kick out of meeting anyone really, I'm pretty easy. It would be fun to sit in a coffee shop with Baz discussing Dostoevsky and arguing the merits of Brothers Karamazov, I think Shalot would be a blast to have a drink or two with and listen to cheesy 80's hair metal, I would love to meet Claes as long as he would bring a portfolio of all his pictures...Blue Victim as well, I would love to get together with Kiz to talk about the prairie, I think Papaya would be a blast, period and of course Virgil, so he could tell me why all my opinions are wrong. There are so many more, Sub, Aimus...see?! This is why I didn't want to start because I knew I would leave someone out and I would feel bad...

    Favorite thread?
That would have to be either the "What are you reading?" or "What song are you listening to?"

    Last food did you have?
    Pistachios

Last words you said out loud?
After noticing on facebook that my oldest son is a fan of House, I asked him if he's ever actually seen the show? He said no.

    Last person you hugged/kissed?
I would imagine it was one of the kids at work.

What do you do (for a living) to be able to keep your LitNet addiction going? And are you happy with your chosen profession?
I am an assistant director at a child care center that cares for exclusively infants and toddlers. As well as having some administrative duties, I'm also the main 'teacher' for the one year-olds so I get to do art with them and play in the snow and water and sand and break up a lot of fights and kiss a lot of boo-boos. I am happy with my job, I really can't imagine doing anything else, I would be so bored!

What would you like to be if you could change your profession?
I would most likely still work with kids, but maybe as a child psychologist instead of a caregiver.

    Least favorite book/song/movie?
Least favorite book is easy, Middlemarch! Least favorite movies is a little harder...I'm not sure it would qualify as least favorite but the LOTR movies irritate me intensely because of certain changes and I can't watch them without getting pissed even while I'm impressed visually. Those dang elves to NOT belong at Helm's Deep. Least favorite song, there are so many but one in particular I remember from my early years is this ridiculous song by Charlene, Never Been To Me. Man! I hated that song!

What is your most outstanding feature?
    My feet!

Most and least favorite characters from books?
Most favorite...so hard...Soames from The Forsyte Saga, Phinneas Finn from Anthony Trollope's Palliser series, Gregor from Quite Flows the Don, Maedhros from The Silmarillion, Don Gately from Infinite Jest, Ivan from The Brothers Karamazov, Bjartur of Summerhouses from Independent People even though I do feel the need to slap him on a regular basis...and well, I'll quit there for the sake of brevity.

Least favorite, Irene from The Forsyte Saga, Alosha from Brothers Karamazov, Jarprudur from World Light and that's all that is coming to me at the moment.

What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?
Getting ready for bed and playing Harvest Moon

    Wonderful Superman or depressing Batman?
Depressing Batman, it's not even a close contest!

The most embarrassing moment in your life?
Being yelled at by my Dad in church...when he was in the pulpit between reading the first and second lessons and I was sitting in the balcony.

List some of the things that annoy you immensely.
Intolerance of views or opinions that differ from your own, double negatives, jammies with long pants and tank tops, long winters, toilet paper put on the roll the wrong way

If you had to lose one of your senses, which would you choose and why?
    Taste

What’s the first thing you’ll do in an embarrassing situation?
    Laugh

What type of Faerie would you like to be and why?
    A wood nymph

    What makes you laugh?
    Pretty much anything!

What was the happiest period of your life and why?
Pre-children, living in Minneapolis with my two closest childhood friends; post-children, back when they were young and cute.

What would you like to ask to the person to be interviewed after you?
What era do you find most of the books you read are from?

Nice interview, and thank's for the mention. I'd like to see your pictures too, so if we happen to be on the same continent sometime...

Ah, very nice interview Idril. And I'm sure if we ever met you would be the one telling me why my views are wrong. One other thing, you mention your mother's love as being boundless. In the little bit I've known you, I can see that one would say the same for you. And I didn't even know you worked at a child care center. You're a special lady.
