1. The Awakening by Kate Chopin

    2. Persuasion by Austen?
3. Delta Wedding by Eudora Welty

    4. Vanity Fair by Thackeray

    5. Daisy Miller by Henry James, or is that too short?
6. Emma by Austen

    7. Wives and Daughters by Gaskell

I have never been a fan of Persuasion; find it too dramatic, too soap-opera-ish.

I would like to nominate something by Henry James since I have always wanted to read more of his books ( I loved Daisy Miller). I think I will nominate The Bostonians. And Christopher Reeve is in the movie!

Does that mean you're going to be watching the movie instead of reading the book?

Let's put it this way, if I were to be a character in a novel of manners, I would be the villain.
