Yesterday I read the short story, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, by F. Scott Fitzgerald in public domain. I think it would be an excellent addition to the Lit Net book listings.

Oh that's great. I didn't know the movie was based on a Fitzgerald story. Has anyone seen the movie? I will have to read the story for sure.

I just read the short story and found it marvelous! It's really in the tradition of the American tall tale. Fitzgerald does a great job of getting the reader to suspend disblief on the absurd parts and contrive the situation to be belivable. It was really very funny and, in typical Fitzgerald, he fashioned the funny to take on elements of the pitiful. It was a sad ending. But what a fun read.
I must type out what struck me as the most memorable sentence form the story:
I can never get enough of Fitzgerald's prose. The past--the wild charge at the head of his men up San Juan Hill; the first years of his marriage when he worked late into the summer dusk down in the busy city for young Hildegarde whom he loved; the days before that when he sat smoking far into the night in the gloomy old Button house on Monroe Street with his grandfather--all these had faded like unsubstantial dreams from his mind as though they had never been.
Now I wonder what the movie will be like. Perhaps I shall see it now.But read the story first, whomever out there intends to see the movie.

Thanks guys I will have to read this over the weekend. My mum is busting my chops to take her and see the movie so I promised that I would. My cousin went and saw it and was raving about it on Christmas day so I hope it is a good as he says it is.

I just finished reading it, and thought it was really good. Definately worth reading - can't wait to watch it!
Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears, for they are rain upon the blinding dust of earth, overlying our hard hearts.

I read this a couple years ago when I went through my Fitzgerald phase. (Still adore the man's work)
I just saw the movie, and, while it's a good show, it has nothing on the beauty of the original writing. I prefer reading it to watching it, but I would still recommend the movie to anyone who asked.
Thanks Syrinx. And welcome to lit net.
