Happy Biirthday, my dear niece! Uncle Pen
    Some of us laugh
    Some of us cry
    Some of us smoke
    Some of us lie
But it's all just the way

    Happy Birthday!

    An interview with Symphony:

1 - How did you come about this site and what makes you keep coming back?
I was looking for a good literature forum, I have loved different sorts of poetry and prose even then. Found this site in google. Liked it. Joined. Started posting in it about a year later.
I don’t participate in many forums, but I love the company and the quality here. This site helped turn my interest in literature, esp. poetry, into an obsession.

2 - Have you visited other countries than your own and what did you like about it or not like?
I’ve only been out of Bangladesh once, and to Kolkata, India. I’m afraid I didn’t like it much. Probably because I was a kid and I was missing home, but it seemed to me a larger version of Dhaka-- plus the rackets, minus the warmth.

3 - What are your favorite hobbies ?
I love wasting valuable time in any way possible. Be it writing, reading, or singing, I manage to do it at just the wrong time.

4 - Do you have any pets?
    No.

5 - What makes you happy?
    Life (unprocessed).

    6. How can you get away with being online at work?
That’s the beauty of it. I don’t work. I’m just a reluctant student who finds time for anything but textbooks.

    7. What is mankind's biggest achievement, and its greatest downfall?
    Achievement: Civilization, of course.
    Downfall: Civilization, of course.

    8. If you had a long day of hard work ahead of you what music would you be playing on your mp3, while working?
    Predictably, I’d be singing myself.
    Predictably, it’d be a funny/light song.

    9. If you could take one book, music album and one video with you to a desert island, what would they be?
Actually, I’d ask if I could have an iMAc with an connection instead. Loads of books and music that way.
But when you say “a deserted island” you probably mean to send me to a god-abandoned place with no connectivity, so I’d rather skip the entertainments and take only the philosopher bit of my mind instead, so that in time I’m mad enough to live with just myself.

    10. Which actress should play you in a movie based on your life?
I cant let go of my ONE chance to become famous! Me as actress, or no movie!

    11. What makes you smile? (Activities, people, events, hobbies, projects, etc.)
    Life (processed).

    12. What were your favorite things to do the past? What about now?
I wasted my time then. I waste my time now. There is no past. I never grew up.

    13. What activities make you lose track of time?
Talking, reading, hanging out with friends.

    14. What makes you feel great about yourself?
I’m often very happy about myself. Sometimes its a poem I wrote. Sometimes a song that suits my voice.

    15. Who inspires you most? (Anyone you know or not. Family, friends, authors, artists, leaders, etc.) Which qualities inspire you, in each person?
I still don’t have a fixed favorite personality. Many people have so far contributed in inspiring me. Cant even name them all, for at times I haven’t even known their names-- just admired and aspired.
Hope in people gives me hope. I admire people who don’t give up.

    16. What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)
Singing, I’d say. People have often said I’m good at it.

    17. What do people typically ask you for help in?
    Everything except home work.

    18. If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
    Physics.

    19. What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?
    Ask me when I’m 80.

    20. What song is in your head at the moment?
“We all just wanna be big rock stars, live in hilltop houses, driving 15 cars..” ( Rockstar - Nickelback)

    21. The last book you bought/borrowed from the library?
Bought “The Rainbow” by D. H. Lawrence and a book of selected poems by Rudro (a Bengali poet)

    22. Which book are you reading at the moment?
Started “The Rainbow” in October, didn’t get time to continue, but I’m on with it again now.

    23. The last book you finished reading?
Jane Eyre (that’s right I didn’t read it before)

    24. Favorite food?/ Comfort food?
Foochka, a popular Bengali junk food

    25. Favorite outfit?
    Saari

    26. What are you wearing at the moment?
    An ultra-loose t-shirt and trousers

    27. Favorite poem?
This interview is starting to get difficult to answer…

    28. First novel you remember reading on your own?
    Very, very difficult…

    29. Favorite TV shows?
I like ‘Friends’ a lot, though its pretty old by now. And I never miss a Bengali show called “Ittyadi” shown every year on Eid.

    30. Which LitNet members would you like to meet in person if you could?
Let me see… I think Virgil, Firefangled, Pendragon, PrinceMyshkin, Pensive, and lotsa others.

    31. Favorite post on the Forum?
    I’m so clearly biased :
    http://www.online-literature.com/for...ad.php?t=34192

    32. Favorite thread?
The Poetry Games and Contests threads. Cant follow them all, and cant post or participate always, but I love to see how others are doing, and check the threads whenever I get the time.

    33. Last food you had?
    Coffee and bread

    34. Last words you said out loud?“I look like the proof of evolution right now!” in bangla.

    35. Last person you hugged/kissed?
    Hugged my Dad.

    36. What do you do (for a living) to be able to keep your LitNet addiction going?
I don’t do anything for a living, I eat and sleep to gather energy to keep the addiction going.

    37. Are you happy with your chosen profession?
Yes I’m happy being a reluctant student.

    38. What would you like to be if you could change your profession?
Particle physicist or a cosmologist (fat chance!)

    39. Least favorite book/song/movie?
Least fav. book: Any book recommended by the NCTB (National Curriculum and Textbook Board, Bangladesh)
Least fav. song: “Whenever, wherever” by Shakira (it has the most retarded lyrics I have ever heard)
    Least fav. movie: Pathology

    40. The most generous thing you have done?
    Erm… I’m not quite sure.
But lately a baby sparrow fell into our veranda and died due to the heat and light there I suppose. And then it started happening almost daily. Each one a day. That’s so depressing and I try my best to save them, we only managed to save the last two so far, protected them till they could fly and an adult sparrow (probably the mother) could get them. My father says it’s the most generous thing to do.

    41. What is your most outstanding feature?
My teeth! They’re anything but adjacent to each other

    42. If you could change one thing about the way you look, what would that be?
However I look, I’m satisfied with it. Can I change my impaired vision instead? 

    43. Which book do you wish you had written?
Any book of poetry by Jibonanondo Das

    44. What is your favorite book cover?
I prefer the ancient sort. Red and golden bindings and all. Or the ones like Tagore’s Sanchayita, khaki and manuscript-like.

    45. Most and least favorite characters from books?
My likes and dislikes keep changing with each book and my head is always full with the last book read, so its hard to choose from more than one.

    46. What would your biography be titled?
    Incongruities

    47. What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?
    Preparing for some exams coming.

    48. Wonderful Superman or depressing Batman?
    Hancock!!

    49. The most embarrassing moment in your life?
If its most embarrassing why would I narrate it here to re-embarrass myself? :P

    50. Which literary character (s) have you been told to resemble the most?
Asked my sister this, she reckons I’m Viola from Twelfth Night.
(oh and asked a friend too, he reckons I’m a hulk )

    51. List some of the things that annoy you immensely.
    > People saying I’m sweet/cute/anything frilly
    > Moments when I myself do anything I don’t like others doing
    > Pink

    52. Anything that you want to forget but you never can?
    The fact that I’m stupid.

    53. One final word of wisdom for LitNet users?
Words of wisdom from me? I’m sure they all are way wiser than I am, but to people who think they’re not: Wisdom is at times contagious, try to catch it from anyone in contact.

    54. What would you like to ask to the person to be interviewed after you?
Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?

This is so cool. Thanks! I know I am 2 days late in my appreciation, but my grandma’s in the hospital (and in that critical post operative 48 hours) so I’d been very occupied the last two days. But here goes.

Thanks first to the bluebird Pensy who started the thread. You’re a sweetheart.
Thanks to Niamh right from fairyland.
Uncle Virge: Loved the orchestra! And the hypnotoad . Thanks!
Thanks Weisinheimer, that’s a lovely cake.
Thank you FifthElement, muhsin, andya, mercy, for all your well wishes.
Janine, oh just looking at those flowers is a bliss, they’re lovely! Thank you.
And thanks to Ladywentworth, Mother Hubby, pussnboots, Poetess, eyemaker, magnolia, Logos, Haven, Scher…
and of course, dear dear Uncle Pen!

    Happy Birthday, Symph

here is a bowl of sandesh for you

Good interview Its interesting to know that you like both arts and science.

I have been to Kolkatta once, and I found that its very crowded, and also that Bengalis talk a lot, and I mean a lot! They have an immnese (sp?) capacity to talk non-stop . But, there is still some charm left, as it has the old city area and the newly developed ones as well. My father has fond memories of that city, as he had spent his early childhood there.

Oh, and I too like gol-gappa (phuchka) *drools*

I like wearing a saree; it is one of my favourit outfit as well.

Symph, be annoyed. Very very annoyed.
I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves of gold there grew.

    Happy (Belated) Birthday Symph!
I'm weary with right-angles, abbreviated daylight,
Waiting for a winter to be done.
Why do I still see you in every mirrored window,
In all that I could never overcome?
