Thank you very much, Pensive It has been a really good day so far (though it's only 9:55 a.m. here), and I think it's still getting better

    It was right, kiitos paljon!

Thank you everyone, I'm still a bit shocked of actually being 20 years old (goodbye, teenage years!), but other than the aging-crisis I had a pretty nice birthday(weekend)

That's good to hear. And don't worry about the aging thingy, you would soon get used to it and hopefully will also discover the beauty of terrific twenty. (btw, the new forum system is all good and everything but the one thing that I haven't liked has been the change in the smileys! I was so used to the older ones. )

So sorry I missed your birthday, Annamariah! I hope you had a good time.

Hope you had a nice birthday!

    An interview with Annamariah:

1 - How did you come about this site and what makes you keep coming back?

I had been thinking for a while that I’d like to join a forum where I could practise my English. Since I’ve always loved reading, I decided to Google for literature forums, and that’s how I found LitNet. Even though I sometimes don’t write anything for several weeks, I always come back. I think it’s because of all the nice people here

2 - Have you visited other countries than your own and what did you like about it or not like?

Well, I’ve been to Legoland in Denmark once, though that was a long time ago. I really enjoyed it, Legos were my great favourites when I was a kid. Then on ninth grade my class went to Saaremaa, Estonia. I don’t have very good memories from that trip, but that’s because of the class, not because of the place itself. The best part was when we went sightseeing around the island.

3 - What are your favorite hobbies?

Music has always been very important part of my life. I took piano lessons for 9 years, I was in a music class in comprehensive school for 6 years, and now I sing in a choir in the university. I also like knitting and crocheting, and I’ve been a scout since I was 10 years old.

4 - Do you have any pets?

No, I’m allergic to pretty much all animals.

5 - What makes you happy?

    Spending time with a friend/friends.

    6. How can you get away with being online at work?

I’m a student, so I don’t have that problem Well, I just spent three months of my summer holiday working in a place where I basically sat in front of a computer eight hours a day, but I resisted the temptation of using it for any non-work-related stuff pretty well

    7. What is mankind's biggest achievement, and its greatest downfall?

Oh, such a great question, but I’m afraid I can’t give a good answer. I think that having a culture and all that “extra” stuff that isn’t strictly necessary for staying alive is a pretty great achievement. Greatest downfall would be wars and all the unnecessary violence.

    8. If you had a long day of hard work ahead of you what music would you be playing on your mp3, while working?

I like to listen to classical music while I work, because it helps me to concentrate and doesn’t have lyrics that might distract me from my work.

    9. If you could take one book, music album and one video with you to a desert island, what would they be?

I hate these kind of questions, choosing just one something is so difficult! I guess the book would be the Holy Bible. Music album and video – I can’t really make such a decision, besides I don’t think there would be a CD or DVD player on the island anyway…

    10. Which actress should play you in a movie based on your life?

My life is really far too boring to be turned into a movie.

    11. What makes you smile? (Activities, people, events, hobbies, projects, etc.)

Small kids and babies! Whenever I see one, I can’t help smiling, no matter how sad or depressed I’m feeling.

    12. What were your favorite things to do the past? What about now?

When I was younger, reading was the one favourite thing. Now surfing the Internet is another favourite of mine, which is good, because without the Internet both my studies and social life would suffer very much.

    13. What activities make you lose track of time?

Reading. I have a habit of looking at the clock every few minutes, but reading a good book is one of the rare exceptions.

    14. What makes you feel great about yourself?

Succeeding in something I found difficult.

    15. What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)

I have a good memory and I’m a quick learner.

    16. What do people typically ask you for help in?

Something school-related or knitting. People often ask me if they want to know something but are too lazy to do the research themselves, because I often know the answer and if I don’t, it’s going to bug me until I find out what the answer is. I’ve been called “the walking encyclopedia” or “the source of information” because of that.

    17. If you had to teach something, what would you teach?

    Probably English.

    18. What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?

Getting a good education, I think.

    19. The last book you bought/borrowed from the library?

The last book I bought was Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. The last ones I borrowed from the library were Catch Me If You Can by Frank W. Abagnale and An Accomplished Woman by Jude Morgan.

    20. Which book are you reading at the moment?

    The Host by Stephenie Meyer.

    21. The last book you finished reading?

Somebody Else’s Kids by Torey Hayden

    22. Favorite food?/ Comfort food?

    Chocolate.

    23. Favorite outfit?

I like dressing up, wearing lovely skirts and dresses and so on, but normally I just wear jeans and some casual shirt, since it’s so much easier and more comfortable.

    24. What are you wearing at the moment?

    My pyjamas.

    25. First novel you remember reading on your own?

I can’t remember. I learned to read when I was 5 years old and immediately started reading as much as I could, first story books with a lot of pictures, then longer ones without so many pictures. At the same time my parents kept reading aloud to me, so I don’t know which ones I’ve originally read on my own and which ones were read to me first.

    26. Favorite TV shows?

House M.D., Gilmore Girls, Top Gear, Survivor…

    27. Which LitNet members would you like to meet in person if you could?

Anyone, if I had a chance.

    28. Last food did you have?

Um, chocolate… Last real food was some pasta and chicken.

    29. What do you do (for a living) to be able to keep your LitNet addiction going?

I’m a student, and in four years I should graduate and become a translator.

    30. Are you happy with your chosen profession?

After one year of studying I can say I’m very happy with my decision

    31. What would you like to be if you could change your profession?

I think I’ll be happy with translating, but I could also work in a library part-time. (Actually I’m already doing that, I just received my very first pay check from library today.)

    32. Least favorite book/song/movie?

I could name great many books, songs and movies I dislike, but I can’t say which ones would be the worst.

    33. If you could change one thing about the way you look, what would that be?

I’d change my skin. I have an atopic skin, and it’s dreadfully dry and irritable.

    34. What is your favorite book cover?

I like the cover of A Little Love Song by Michelle Magorian very much.

    35. Most and least favorite characters from books?

Mr Darcy is one of my favourites, least favourite I can’t name.

    36. What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?

Nothing, really, I still have over two weeks of holiday ahead of me.

    37. One final word of wisdom for LitNet users?

    Tolle, lege, tolle, lege!

    38. What would you like to ask to the person to be interviewed after you?

What is the greatest thing you’ve ever learned by reading books?

You might like to join this group then!

    26. Favorite TV shows?

House M.D., Gilmore Girls, Top Gear, Survivor…
Gilmore Girls happens to be one of my favourites too but I wasn't very satisfied with the ending.
