Depends on the target audience. My 9-year old daughter loves it.

It's the Grease story done in 2008 clothes, and I couldn't tell you in this forum how much I loathe Grease, but I thought HSM wasn't too bad. (Haven't seen enough of HSM II to comment, but sequels usually fail)

The hero's a sports star, but not even slightly brawny. In a lot of films, he'd be "the dork".

The girl is good. Talented, non-white, vivacious, and brainy - really brainy.

    Nice, politically-correct mixture of ethnicities.

Huge commercial success. While commercial success makes no statement about high quality, really bad films are those which bomb and bomb loudly - A Star is Yawn, Water World, Heaven's Gate, et al, rather than those which spawn sequels, hit CDs, stage shows, ice dancing tours....

No worse than any other Disney vehicle and a lot better than some - The Mighty Ducks, anyone?

The target audience part I agree with you about, but as for Greese done over, I definately don't see that. I guess maybe that could comparison could work, but both are targeted to different audiences. So, maybe...

Haha. As for the Might Ducks comment, that is pretty terrible. They went from okay to worse with those.

My latest edition to this list is The Golden Compass. Not because I disagree with the whole atheist background stuff to it or any other fluff that went with the movie/book, but I just didn't like the movie. I read some of the book, well, got started, but it was better. I think the only part of that movie that I liked was the polar bear fight. Other than that, the only enjoyment I got out of sitting in that movie theatre watching as my $3.75 went to the trash bin was the comments that my friends and I made through out the movie.

I have yet to see "Superbad". Well, I am sure that you will be first in line to see the theatrical release of HSM 3 then, right? I think I saw the trailer for it during "Mamma Mia". I'd heard that there was going to be a third but I didn't know that it was going to be a movie released in theaters.

I have to agree with you here, sprinks. Uncle Rico is great. He kind of reminds me of my brother. Kip is pretty good, too. Oh, it is entertains me.

I think I would have enjoyed Napoleon Dynamite more if I hadn't already heard every single line in the movie and seen approximately 17.96 billion "Vote for Pedro" t-shirts by the time I finally got around to watching it.

I can imagine . Luckily everyone around here was slower that that... Everyone was on about "Vote for Pedro" but very little of them actually even saw the movie or liked it! And they didn't even start going on about "Vote for Pedro" 'til ages after the movie was out so I didn't have that problem luckily

I just saw an ad for "Disaster Movie," another in the line of "(insert movie genre here) Movie" series. The only one that was even close to watchable was the first "Scary Movie," and that wasn't even all that good. Why do they keep making these steaming piles of crap? I guess the more important question is: Why do people keep paying to see these steaming piles of crap?

I have to agree with this post. I have read all three of the books and loved them. For me the movie fell flat and it could have been a lot better then it was. I guess that is why it failed and they are not planning on the second movie which is a shame.

House of Wax was pretty bad. And anyone of the Scream movies.
