I'll probably read Norwegian Wood anyway, since I managed to find it here.

Has anyone read Dance, dance, dance by Murakami?
Oh I was comparing Norwegian Wood and Kafka on the Shore of the two Kafka on the Shore is better, but it's not my favourite Murakami book. My favourite is Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World but The Wind Up Bird Chronicle is excellent and I agree I enjoyed it better than Kafka on the Shore. A Wild Sheep Chase and Dance, Dance, Dance are excellent too (these are a set, if you want to read Dance, Dance, Dance read A Wild Sheep Chase first, it makes more sense that way though I enjoyed Dance, Dance, Dance more!). Sputnik Sweetheart was good too. Oh heck, who am I kidding, they're all good! I love Murakami!!! I'm reading After Dark at the moment and it's excellent. Can't wait for What I think when I think about running when it comes out later this year (biography, I expect brilliance, insight!)

I think, vheissu, that if you preferred The Wind Up Bird Chronicle to Kafka on the Shore you might find Norwegian Wood a bit disappointing. I did. I suppose it depends what interested you in the book, I found the magical realism of The Wind Up Bird Chronicle appealing, whereas this is none existent in Norwegian Wood. So I guess I don't find Norwegian Wood very representative of Murakami's overriding style.

I guess that solves it then. Kafka on the Shore has 8 votes, since Spacetoon only has 39 posts. So I think Norwegian Wood wins.

Ah, what a shame. I love Murakami, I like people to see him at his best: Norwegian Wood isn't it. Oh well.

Maybe you can start a discussion thread for Kafka on the Shore in the General Literature section for those who would like to read it.

The fact that it hasn't won the poll in the BC does not mean that you can still read and discuss it with other members who are willing to give it a go.

    Norwegian Wood, here we come!

Not a bad idea since I've got the book too. Right now I am enjoying Banville's The Sea, so i'm not in a hurry to get to another book.
