    Exclamation What is a Lote-Tree?

    What is a Lote-Tree?

For those who wanted to know but were afraid to ask

The word "Lote-Tree" comes from the the Religious Text - Quran, Surah 53, Verse 14.

53:14 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass:
53:15 Near it is the Garden of Abode.
53:16 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!)

Lote-Tree is no ordinary Tree on Earth, though in it's Earthly incarnations it is usually related to the "Jujube Tree" and the Lotus Plant. Lote-Tree is a Mystical Symbol, a metaphor if you like for the Ultimate Limits of Human Knowledge. It appears in Hinduism too, and the tree symbolism in particular - is prevalent in meditative and spiritual practices of other cultures too - in the Bible it is the "Tree of Knowledge", Buddha had his Enlightenment under the Bo Tree, in Kabalah it is the "Tree of Life"...in Bahai Faith..it is the Divine Lote-Tree etc...:-)

    I hope that helps

    Regards,
    Lote.
I sent my Soul through the Invisible,
Some letter of that After-life to spell:
And by and by my Soul return'd to me,
    And answer'd "I Myself am Heav'n and Hell :"

Ah, this is so you, full of life and knowledge, and absolutely divine.
The only difference between you and a Lote-Tree is that your knowledge has no limits, eh?

Oh, I know you are prone to vanity, but I just enjoy making your head expand.

Well, I have been depressed during the holidays because I seriously missed my dog, so I went back to my parents last weekend and now I am feeling better. I had cute moments with my dog, I caressed his sweet face, I gave him kisses and I watched him while he was quietly sleeping. As soon as I could take him in my arms, all my sadness was gone.

Now I am back to university. I have had two good grades this morning, I have read recommandation letters on which my teachers said I was a wonderful student ( ) and I have seen a woman who told me I had high chances to be selected for the programme with which I could go and study in Oregon next year! Oh, also I had a score of 110/120 on the TOEFL!

Edit: I forgot to ask: How are YOU?

Yes, you are a source of amusement to me, Dear Lote. Oh, by the way, I have finally received my Lote t-shirt, it feels wonderful to wear it. However, I have sniffed it but your scent is NOT on it. I am VERY disappointed.

    Congratulations Sophie...My wise Lassie
Tell me I am great, please. Oh yes I am wise. Very wise. Extremely wise.

    I am well thanks :-)
Happy to hear that, Lote. I must go now, because contrary to you, I have work to do.

Hmm, and there was me thinking a Lote-Tree was something that only started polls on Lit-Net
There once was a scotsman named Drew
Who put too much wine in his stew
    He felt a bit drunk
    And fell off his bunk
And landed smack into his shoe

    Lote.
    53 :Surat An-Najm ( The Star)
In the name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful,

whereat He, [God] exalted be He, revealed to His servant, Gabriel, what he, Gabriel, revealed, to the Prophet (s); the thing being revealed is not mentioned [explicitly] in exaltation of its [great] status.(10)

The heart, the heart of the Prophet, did not deny (read khadhaba or kadhdhaba) what he saw, with his own eyes of the image of Gabriel.(11)

Will you then dispute with him, will you [then] argue with him and [hope to] overwhelm him, concerning what he saw? — an address to the idolaters who denied the Prophet’s (s) vision of Gabriel.(12)

And verily he saw him, in his [true] image, another time,(13)

by the Lote-tree (Sidrat-ul-Muntaha ) of the Ultimate Boundary, when he was carried on the night journey [up] through the heavens — this [lote-tree] is a nabk thorn-tree [that lies] to the right of the Throne (‘arsh), [the tree] beyond which no angel or any other being pass;(14)

when there shrouded the Lote-tree that which shrouded [it], of flying creatures and other [beings] (idh, ‘when’, is operated by ra’āhu, ‘he saw him’),(15).
