    Adam is me

My name is Adam, I've read a bunch of books and I am looking forward to sharing my views. Favorite writer of all time, my paisano, Herman "the custom's inspector" Melville. If you haven't read Moby Dick and felt the sting of emotion in your eyes when Ahab launches into dominating tirades, I am not sure you and I bleed the same blood.

Also, as most people, I would assume, I am a Tolstoy buff. No man understands both genders of the human species as entirely as my main man Leo. Pierre's death in War and Peace, perhaps the single most wonderful and transcendent moment in any book I've I ever read. The poetry, the soul, brilliant!!! Too bad he divorced his wife after 47 years of marriage. It sure seemed like he had things figured out.

Roots, although partially stolen from another author, is another absolutely stunner. You're telling me you can find something more heart wrenching than Kunta being shackled in the tall grass. Alex Haley, ghost writer for the autobiography of Malcom X, another life changer, is underrated as an author. Forget about it.

Three criteria I use for judging books:

    1. Pure artistic beauty
    2. Depth of meaning
    3. Sheer entertainment value

    Three favorites of all time:
    1. Moby Dick
    2. Anna Kerennina
    3. Grapes of Wrath (Best, most shocking and perfectly symbolic closing to a book in history, in my opinion)

I am a sucker for writers that are from countries who participated in the cold war, obviously.

    Adam

    Greetings to all..

I am a writer and lover of poetry, it is a passion of mine as well as music. I love nature and am very nocturnal, I'd say..lol. I find inspiration in so many things. I love the rain, watching storms blow in...the night sky with all its beauty. I cannot 'not' write, it's a part of who i am. A way to express freely and a way of cleansing the soul. I can speak clearly through my pen when my voice can't be found. I'm the Mom of two great kids, a son (who has blessed me with a grandson, I'm a young grandmother, lol) who is 23 a daughter who is 14. My daughter also writes and just loves words..she reads the dictionary sometimes..lol, I guess that's a good thing, yeah. She writes short stories and has some amazing ones about wolves, her favorite subject.
Anyway, I've rambled on long enough, sorry. I'm looking forward to being a part of this community and meeting the members.

    Peace,
    Stormy

    Hello etc

    Hey,
I'm an Englishman living in Russia these last ten years. I am obssessed with reading, writing and language generally. It would take too long to do a list of favourites; I've been a fairly prolific reader since childhood, and childhood was many moons ago. Besides the list changes everyday.
I like what I read here and will likely post a fair bit if I don't forget I registered and wander off like an idiot.
    ermmm....that's it.

Hello everybody! have a great time here on the LitNet!
"The time has come," the Walrus said,
    "To talk of many things:
    Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
    Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
    And whether pigs have wings."

I made reference to the death of Pierre in War and Peace. My bad. Pierre doesn't die, I meant to say Andrei Bolkonski.

    Hello all...

    Mornin'

I'm an English MA Student from Yorkshire. I'm quite a poor working class girl, hoping to take my PHD if I can find the cash from somewhere. My interest in reading is usually acedemically based, but I do love Virginia Woolf, and enjoy reading and writing poetry. My favourite poem being 'Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night' by Dylan Thomas. My other great love is music - I have an ecclectic taste. I enjoy a boogie.

Welcome to all the newbies, and hello to all the established members.
Hopefully you can all offer me some nuggets of wisdom.
"Tolerate the spasmodic, the obscure, the fragmentary, the failure" - Virginia Woolf

I love to write and I love to sit and think. That's it. Anything else in my life is extra.

    Welcome to the litnet, tamora.
Calvin: You can’t just turn on creativity like a faucet. You have to be in the right mood.

    Hobbes: What mood is that?

    Calvin: Last-minute panic.
