I almost my boat the Charlotte Corday, also a menacing name, so if you're into history, that's a recommendation.

Urania- the muse of astronomy so the stars may always guide you home
Lachesis- after the fate who determines the path and length of your life (I think this is my personal favorite)
finally I have the nereid (water nymph) Thetis who was the mother of Achilles. I'm pretty big on the names from Greek mythology, and I hope this helps you choose a name. Good luck to you.

Leading candidates so far:
(in no particular order)

Saoirse - Still need a pronunciation for this one

General Chat - I like this a lot. It'll remind me of all my friends here, and General has the alternate interpretation of high command.

Lachesis - Female name.... a polite nod to fate rather than something tempting it.... a very good name.

Bottoms Up - I really like the double meanings of drinking and gay sex (two of my favorite activities and hopefully two things that will happen A LOT on this new boat); but the third possible meaning troubles me...... capsizing!

Panthalassa - How have I never heard this word before today?? I know of Pangea; but never considered that the enormous globe covering sea from the same era had a name. And a beautiful name that rolls off of the tongue nicely, at that!

Finisterre - I love this one! Very appropriate since I intend to see every bit of the globe on this boat. It's also reminiscent of the warning that was placed on the open ocean on early maps from the time before most of the world was charted - "Here there be Monsters"

Sorry, Virg, but I didn't miss it.... I rejected it because;
1) It's a really common boat name.... I know of at least 3

[so·journ:
–noun :a temporary stay: during his sojourn in Paris.

–verb (used without object): to stay for a time in a place; live temporarily]

2) I don't like the temporary nature of it.... If I were going to live somewhere and vacation on the boat, then it would be perfect; but I plan to live on this boat and hopefully die there as well (not anytime soon, mind you, but at a ripe old age many many years from now).


Another excellent suggestion that I've rejected is Scheherazade's "Mal de Mer". This fell by the wayside because "Mal de Mer Man" was the name of my primary fishing boat and because I no longer suffer from Mal de Mer (sea-sickness). But I did give serious consideration to "Mal de Mer No More".
