Papayahed, Niamh, Kathy and Shalot, you are all probably right on the money. It is likely the hairdresser. And Shalot asked if the 'dreaded cap' was used.... IT WAS!! She used a steel crochet hook and pulled out my hair through those wee holes.... which set off my sneezing reflex (does anyone else have that -- where if your hair is pulled you sneeze??)

So after getting half bald, my hair was brightened, as I thought it would be, my wallet was lighter, and I have to fight with my hair every single time I wash it...

My friend, Billie, works at a corner drugstore, and she wants to get me the home streaking kit (L'oreal, I believe it is), and 'do it proper' (to quote her). I have lost faith in products because my hair is not the best its been...

But thanks all for your input.

Shalot, perhaps, since you did like the red dye you tried, maybe see a professional you trust (ha!) and get something that will last, as you say. It is so much fun getting a new look.

And Idril, you are adorable with either long or short hair. Both pictures are very sweet.

I didn't look any where near as cute as that second picture of yours. Probably because with very short hair my head resembles a poodle's coat.

Oi, those hooks are murder. That makes me sneeze too...I have "sun sneezing" as well, which acts up with very bright lights or strong flavors.

You are all very kind but I think it's just the ugly clothes, they make you feel sorry for me.

And Kiz, I can't imagine sneezing while my hair was being worked on with one of those hooks, how much hair was ripped out?

Poor Niamh with that tuff ... and kids can be mean, we have all been made plenty aware of that eh?

** thinks back to a small bald spot that the kids made me aware that they noticed... hmmmmmph **

Thank goodness someone understands about that sneezing thing -- it is so difficult to explain .. it almost sounds crazy! And I also get it with the bright light, which makes going to the dentist somewhat of a chore, er, shall we say...!

I never had that experience where my mother chopped off nearly all my hair, but she did comb it rather harshly, as I remember. I have very thin, tangle-succeptible hair and it is not cool. I brush it for a couple minutes a day and use conditioner, but I refuse to do anything else. It may have some tangles in it, but I like it that way.

My sympathies to those who actually did get teased by the kiddies in school because of that, though.

My mother would comb my hair "briskly" when she was in a bad mood. And I really didn't like to comb my hair much until I was in the fourth or fifth grade maybe. One time I decided it would be a good idea to put baby oil in my hair. That made her really mad. I remember her saying, "You can't go to school like that!" and she vigorously washed my hair with some stinky shampoo. And it still didn't work and I think she called me a dope. And then my teacher asked me what happened to my hair when I got to school. She shouldn't have called me a dope but I shouldn't have done that. Anyone ever cut their own hair?

And I had an aunt who liked to french braid hair but she would pull it so tight that it made my head hurt and I would was one unhappy little girl until I pulled that braid out and then she had the nerve to be offended that I pulled out her braids ("you took out your braid!!" she said, all surprised about it)

Little girls are not dolls and should not be treated as such!

Oh, poor Shalot! That sounds like the kind of thing that would send you to a therapist's office.

No no! I like the clothes - especially the yellow thingy in the first picture. It really does remind me of being little. In some ways childhood kind of sucks because you hope for the days when you don't have to clean your room because your mom has gone psycho, but most of the time it's really magical. I mean you can PLAY! You can sit there for a long time and play with your little toys and be perfectly content for the longest time.

I didn't ever cut my own hair, to respond to someone's question, but I slept with gum in my mouth once and had to have my hair cut by my, er, rather 'annoyed' mother.....

Hey girls, whatcha all up to?

We are in the middle of a heat wave here in the Prairies, and it almost kills you to go bike riding down the trails. Fortunately, about 60% of the trail is shaded by the forest. But yah, it has been very hot lately!

There isn't much going on here. It is warm and sunny so we are planning to do lots of outside things with the kids. I think we are going to go berry picking tomorrow, and then I'm going to make jelly with it. I'm trying to figure out a good way that my son can help me to make it without actually involving him in the use of the stove.

I'm also planning to get my hair cut. Anyone have any good ideas? It is really thick so I'm somewhat limited. You can see what it looks like now in my avatar. It is just long, no layers or anything so something must be done. I just don't know what...
