I've never worn them, but I've had them in my shins a couple of times. Aren't steel toecaps uncomfortable? Or do you hardly notice them until someone stands on your foot and then you can say Ha, steel toecaps.

I used to have to wear them when i was an archaeologist. They drove me mad. I ended up with these mad ridges in my bigtoe nail after my first pair where they dug in every time i crouched down.

Sounds uncomfortable. I guess it depends on what you do with them. My ex-friend Tom had them (hence them sometimes ending up in my shins) but he seemed to find them comfortable, but he just stood around doing nothing all day. I'll ask my dad about his next time he graces us with his presence, he's a builder so he wears them out of necessity.

I wear them almost everyday (my plant requires them). Steel Toe shoes are heavier then regular shoes, and generally more ugly. The pair I have now, which are Doc Martens, are quite comfortable but I paid (well company paid) $150 for them. They have a pretty wide selection out now.

Tom's shoes looked like bulky black trainers and my dad's look like quite average shoes except they're always covered in dust and paint .

They kind of remind me a little of the kind of shoes I used to wear for school. They weren't steel toecaps though. Shame. I bet that would've sorted out those nasty girls who seemed to love tormenting me. I think I drove them a bit mad because I didn't retaliate. Well, once, I returned a kick to the shins and got a harder one back. I did my work behind the scenes and got them kicked out Justice to the quiet and nerdy looking! (but not exactly that smart or teacher's pet. I don't think they quite got that. What a bunch of cretins )
