I have heard of them and even heard a song or two. They're a band I think I should like but the two songs I've heard I had a kind of lukewarm reaction to. I think I need to hear more.

Just for Riesa and Idril, I'm playing:

That's very sweet. I haven't heard that one, is it a good one? I really do need to check them out.

Yeah, it's my favorite track on their new CD, The Crane Wife. It's kind of too bad they are on a major label now, though.

So they are worth listening to? thanks bluevictim. they always seem to be put in the same category as the shins, so I've been interested in them lately, just have only heard the little snippets on iTunes. Not enough to tell whether I'd like them or not, but now I think I'll go download Yankee Bayonet.

Yeah, they're worth listening to. The lead vocalist doesn't have a super great voice, but I think their lyrics are very good. As far as I can discern, anything that's considered "indie" gets lumped together, without any regard to similarities / dissimilarities, so I'm not surprised that they get put in the same category as The Shins. FWIW, I've only listened to small snippets of songs by The Shins, and none of them hooked me, so I wouldn't expect The Decemberists to be like The Shins.

The Shins are a band that take some time to really digest, it took a few listens before I really started appreciating their genius.

A lot of bands I like are like that; I haven't given up on The Shins yet!

I'm glad you haven't, I hope you'll be well rewarded for your patience.
