In the stomach, the face leaves marks

Critisize someone to their face or spread rumors behind their back?
I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book! When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.

Washington Irving. I just wrote an essay exam about Henry James, and I fear it didn't go my way...

I remember that happening to me once too. It cost me a grade from A to B. James is not easy to write about.
